The workshop represented a critical step in building the capacity of competition authorities in&#13;
Africa to effectively combat cartels and promote fair competition. By equipping personnel with&#13;
the necessary skills and fostering collaboration, it aimed to enhance the overall effectiveness of&#13;
competition enforcement across the continent.&#13;
Participants were drawn from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and OECD&#13;
states alongside academics and practitioners who had the chance to discuss various areas of&#13;
competition law, in a mutual exchange of good practices and ideas. These participants were&#13;
from countries such as Angola, Algeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia,&#13;
Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Egypt, Tunisia, Somalia, Eswatini, Kenya, Mauritius, Gambia,&#13;
Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Gabon, Burundi, Madagascar, the&#13;
Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi. The resource persons were also drawn from various institutions such as the AFCFTA, OECD,&#13;
the Competition and Markets Authority, the French Competition Authority, among others.

The Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) hosted the 2025 KCA-KOICA Fellowship Program: Capacity Building for Improvement and Specialization of Consumer Protection between 8th June, 2025 and 21st&#13;
June, 2025, in South Korea.&#13;
The fellowship programme was aimed at building the capacity of the participants from Kenya, ElSalvador and Bangladesh who investigate consumer issues on a day- to- day basis to enhance their&#13;
abilities in investigations techniques and learn from KCA case handling procedures.

The 46th Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) Meeting Was held in Arusha from 6th&#13;
- 30th of May, 2025 respectively. The Authority was represented by the Director General, Mr. David Kemei and Mr. Raphael Mburu, Manager, Mergers and Acquisitions. The Kenyan delegation during the SCTIFI meeting was led by Mr. Lee Kinyanjui, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary - Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) and Ms. Beatrice Askul Moe, cabinet Secretary - East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development. Prior to the meeting a national preparatory meeting was convened in Nairobi by the Ministry of East Africa Community, The ASALs and Regional Development (MEAC) on 22nd May, 2025. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on the Country’s position for the upcoming SCTIFI meeting. The meeting observed the need to have proper presentation during the SCTIFI in order to ensure that the country position was well articulated and championed.

The meeting to induct newly appointed Commissioners of the East African Community Competition Authority EACCA) was held from 3rd to 4th June 2025 in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The meeting was convened in accordance with the EAC Calendar of Activities for January–June 2025. The objective of the meeting was to administer the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Secrecy to the newly appointed Commissioners and to induct them in preparation for the implementation of their mandate under the EAC Competition Act, 2006. In addition, participants received briefings on the legal, institutional, and policy frameworks relevant to EACCA’s operations.

The ICN Annual Conference was held from 6 – 9 May 2025, in Edinburgh Scotland, hosted by the Competition and Markets Authority.  The Conference focused on not only the emerging issues of regulating digital markets and the food and agriculture markets, but also looked at ‘back-to-basics’. The sessions discussed the role of competition policy in driving productivity, innovation and growth, theories of harm in merger review, public procurement and competition and new antitrust regulations, among others.

The Authority participated in the unilateral workshop that was held in Tokyo Japan on 7th and 8th March 2023. The theme of the workshop was “Developments and Challenges of Competition Policy and Enforcement in the Current Unilateral Conduct Area.” The theme was based on the recent developments in globalization and digitalization of the economy in addition to the various crises, e.g. energy crisis, impacting the global economy. The two issues are simultaneously presenting the new challenges to the competition authorities and increasing the importance of competition policy and enforcement developments in the unilateral conduct area.
